Keywords: asteroids, Bulgarian, astronomy

It is well known that during the past decade the number of the named sky objects has been incredibly increasing and especially that of the small orbiting “rocks”- the asteroids.

The object of this study are the activities of Arbiter of the International Astronomical Union who has the final word of naming the planetary bodies.

This report is an attempt to track out the experience of the Bulgarian astronomers that work on the discovering of new asteroids and giving them names.

There have been represented some additional notices, in regards of the asteroids discovered and named by our scientists as well as asteroids discovered by foreign astronomers but named after Bulgarian names.

The author considers our “native” asteroids that are still not named by the International Planet Center.

It is concluded that it is a long and difficult way to discover asteroids after precise and numerous search efforts, which is followed by a period of time until they are officially named.
