Academician Milko Borissov was extremely modest, honest and humane person. He joined to the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at the University of Sofia. Later he was wined a full professorship in the oldest Department of Experimental Physics. He initiated an innovative series of lectures in solid state physics, and acousto-electronics and acousto-optics. Many high school and university textbooks were written by him. He was a dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, and later when the Faculty was divided, he was dean of the Faculty of Physics too. Twice he was a deputy rector of the Sofia University

Academician Milko Borissov was a very highly esteemed scientist. As experimenter he demonstrated ability, tenacity and dedication with oversize efficiency. His scientific interests comprised varied aspects of condensed matter physics. He examined wave's generation, photoconductivity, surface photo-charge effect and photo dielectric effect, acousto-electronics interaction in crystals, monolithic crystal growth and hydrothermal growth of piezoelectric quartz crystals. He gave theoretical explanation of the surface temperature waves, high-temperature superconductivity in complex oxides and negative photo effect in the zinc oxide. Vibronic interactions and effects in high-temperature superconductors were investigated by him

In Bulgarian Academy of Sciences professor Milko Borissov was vice-director of the Institute of Physics and the first director of the Institute of Solid State Physics. He became a Corresponding member in 1967 and an Academician in 1984. Strenuous efforts were made by him to encourage collaboration between the University of Sofia and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences as a director of the United Centre of Physics. Bulgarian Academy of Sciences put him on the old age pension since March 19, 1991
