Biography
EMIL GEORGIEV NADJAKOV
(27.11.1929 – 27.03.1996)
Born: Emil Georgiev Nadjakov was born in Sofia (Bulgaria). He was son of George Nadjakov.

Education:

Emil Nadjakov studied Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at the Sofia University (1947 – 1951) and graduated successfully in July 1951. His Ph.D. dissertation was made in the experimental physics chair (1956). He became a D.Sc. in March 27, 1979 and professor in October 14, 1980.

Scientific Research:

General Field: Experimental and theoretical nuclear physics.

Experimental: Academician Emil Nadjakov introduced X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray topography in Bulgaria. With new X-ray metodes he investigated structure of molecules and cristal dislocations. Isotopes of heavy nucleus were fund out and lifetimes of High-Spin nucleus were measured by him.

Theoretical: He included rotational bands on the theory of nuclei, roton operators for nuclear rotation, and new theory of rotational and vibrational excitations. He created quark model of nuclear plasma, models of boson and spinor interactions, and quantum mesurement theory.

Professional experience:

Emil Nadjakov joined to the Institute of Physics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1956. His habilitation was in 1963. He leaded laboratory of "X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray structure analyses", called laboratory of "nuclear and X-ray structure investigations" later. In the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy he was head of the laboratory of " nuclear reactions". At the Faculty of Physics he was associate professor (1965-1980) and subdean (1970-1972). In 1980 he took up a professorship at the Sofia University.

Teaching activities:

Academician Emil Nadjakov lectured two courses, called "electromagnetical and optical phenomena" (1967 – 1981; 1990 – 1996) and "nuclear theoretical physics" (1967 – 1981) at the Sofia University.

Awards:

Emil Nadjakov received medal "Kiril and Methodi" degree first (1981) and "Sofia University 100 years" (1988). He became member of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in June 6, 1995.

Joind Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna (Russia) gave him first theoretical prize (1978) and second experimental prize (1993).
