Biography
Joseph M. Marshall
(06.09.1943 – 15.12.2008)

Education

He graduated as BSc Hons. Physics, Sheffield, UK (1965)

He got a PhD degree in Edinburgh (1970)

Research

He made scientific research in three areas

  1. Experimental and theoretical studies of the conductive, photoconductive and other properties of crystalline, polycrystalline, amorphous and organic semiconductors

  2. Computer based numerical modelling of carrier transport and other properties of semiconducting materials and electronic devices

  3. Design, fabrication and characterisation of thin-film sensor devices and systems, for applications in information technology, medicine, automotive industry

Experience

J. Marshall became research fellow in the University of Edinburgh (1970), lecturer (1974), senior lecturer (1981), and reader in the University of Abertay Dundee (1984)

In the University of Wales Swansea, UK, he was professor of electronic materials (1987–2002), and became emeritus professor (2002)

He was Member of the Organising Committee of the annual Chelsea Conferences on Amorphous and Liquid Semiconductors, London, UK, and co-editor of their Proceedings

He organised International conference on amorphous semiconductors n Cambridge (1993), and he was co-editor of its Proceedings

Scientific Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Biennial International Schools on Condensed Matter Physics, Varna, Bulgaria (1990–2008), and co-editor of their Proceedings

Finance Chairman of the International Conference on Amorphous Semiconductors, Cambridge, UK (1993)

He was co-director of the NATO Advanced Study Institute Photovoltaic and Photoactive Materials – Properties, Technology and Applications, Sozopol, Bulgaria (2001), and co-editor of its Proceedings
