Biography
Robert Kurt Popits
(30.11.1933 – 07.11.2016)
Born
Robert Popits was born in Ruse. His father was German merchant. His mother was English teacher born in the family of Hadji Angel from Sevlievo.

Education

Robert Popits graduated electrotechnical school in Ruse (1953)

He studied physics at the Sofia University (1955–1961)

Research

His contributions in applied and medical physics are to dosimetry, ionizing radiations and protection

Professional experience

Robert Popits worked in the X-Ray department of the Ministry of Public Health (1961)

He has been elected for assistant professor at the University hospital in Sofia, where he worked until his retirement in 1995

He became a member of Union of Scientists and Union of Physicists in Bulgaria in 1970. He has been elected a honorary member of the Union of Physicists in Bulgaria later on

He was a secretary of Scientific Society for Biomedical Physics and Engineering (1972–1980)

Bulgaria is a founding country of the International Atomic Energy Agency in 1957. Robert Popits held high-ranking government position in it. He was Vice-President of Bulgarian National Commeettee from 1997 to 2001. The Commeettee became Agency for Atomic Regulations since 22 August 2002

Robert Popits became a founder of the foundation Rontgen (2010).

Teaching activities

Robert Popits was a part-time medical physics lecturer at the universities of Shumen, Plovdiv and Sofia from 1995 to 2004
