Biography
MALINA MALCHEVA DIMITROVA POPOVA
(7 February 1922 – 14 March 2011)

Born: in Parvenets vilage, near Plovdiv

Education

Malina Popova studied physics in the Sofia University. During that time she organised students montгly astronpomical bulletin. She was the first Bulgarian women awarded PhD in astronomy by the Sofia University (1 July 1949).

She specialized in Sonnenberg Observatory, Germany (1961)

Research

In Germany she found 40 new variable stars. She determined KR from Auriga (constellation) as a new type star

Professional experience

Malina Popova was assistant in the Department of Astronomy (1945–1953)

She works in the Section of Astronomy at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Physical Institute (1953) as a scientific secretary (1958 – 1977) and director (1977 – 1979).

Awards

Prof. M. Popova is awarded with: medal "Kopernicus" by the Polish Academy of Sciences, "Kiril and Methodiy" І rank
