Biography
Dimitar Tsvetanov Stoyanov
(06.10.1935 – 14.01.2002)

Born: Dimitar Tsvetanov Stoyanov was born in Plovdiv (Bulgaria).

Education:

He became student in physics at the Sofia University (1955 – 1959) and PhD student in nuclear physics at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russia (1963 – 1968). He obtained PhD in 1968 and DSc in July 24, 1974.

Research:

In the field of theoretical and mathematical physics he investigated relativistic three-body problem, a bosonic string model with second class restrictions, superconformal algeba, Lie groups. He was a pioneer in the investigations on the two dimensional scalar and Thirring models and nonunitary representations of Lorentz group in field theory.

Professional experience:

Bulgarian Academy of Sciences appointed him in theoretical physics department of the Institute of Physics in 1959. Later he worked in Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy. He was vice-president of physics commision at the High Testimonial Committee.

He worked on the theoretical physics problems of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna (Russia) (1963-1976). Here he was chief of department (1971-1976).

Teaching activities:

As associate professor (June 9, 1973) and full professor (June 15, 1982) he lectured the basic course on "mathematical methodes in physics" at the Shumen University (1976-1987) and two courses on "quantum field theory" and "methodes of groups in the theory of elementar particles" at the Sofia University.

Awards:

Dimitar Stoyanov became coresponding member of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 16 June 1997.
